Hook/Before:
Day One
Day One
- The teacher will start by reading an excerpt from the book “World Without Fish” by Mark Kurlansky. This will lead to a class discussion, activating prior knowledge, about everything the students have been learning throughout the unit.

Day Three/Four
- During the next class period, in their groups, students will put the trash they collected into the kiddie pool and hose the trash off. The students will use the towels to dry off the trash.
- In their small groups, the students will use the trash they collected to construct artwork that represent the affects trash has on endangered marine life, specifically sea turtles.
- The teacher will pass out materials the students might need to help build the artwork including glue, pipe cleaners, bendable metal rods, cardboard, Styrofoam, poster boards, colored paper, and scissors.
- The teacher will oversee the project but will ultimately let the students take control. The artwork might take more than one class period to create.
- When the artwork is finished each group will share with the class what the artwork represents.
